Hugo Review

Posted in On DVD by - December 23, 2011

If you like dramas based off books that also have a historical aspect, then Hugo is for you.  Hugo stars Asa Butterfield as Hugo , Chloe Grace Mortez as Isabella, Ben Kingsley as Papa George , Helen Mc Cory as his wife as Mamma Jeanne, Sacha Baron Cohen as Inspector Gustav, Jude Law as Hugo’s father, and Christopher Lee as Monsieur Labisse.

Hugo is a young boy living in a 1920’s Paris train station. He is an orphan and before his father died, his father found an automaton that needed to be repaired.

Hugo is a drama that includes some film history( George Melies).  Hugo also develops the characters, but only really develops Papa George  enough that you really understand him. The other characters are developed too, but not as much.

There is some comic relief in the form of the Inspector trying to catch Hugo and how he comically fails. Hugo is more of a drama than a kids movie, unlike what the advertising suggests.  It is rated PG for  mild thematic material, some action/peril and smoking. Hugo gets an A-
