The Dark Knight Rises Review

Posted in On DVD by - August 09, 2012

Note : I am reviewing this as a standalone movie. I have not seen the 1st 2 movies in this series. I will add a additional thoughts section after seeing all 3.

If you like long superhero dramas with big action set pieces then The Dark Knight Rises is for you. It stars Christan Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/ Catwoman, Micheal Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Joseph Gordon – Levitt as John Blake.

The Dark Knight Rises starts 8 years after The Dark Knight. Harvey Dent is a hero and has a day dedicated to him.  Batman is still a wanted criminal for the crimes that Harvey Dent committed as Two- Face because he took the blame. There is a new criminal called Bane who attacks Gotham. Bruce Wayne must come out of self imposed retirement and save Gotham.

The Dark Knight Rises is a sprawling superhero epic. It has many storylines and events. As a result, it is very long. It’s runtime clocks in at 2 hrs 44 min. It needs the time to play out the story. The Dark Knight figuratively and literally rises and so does the movie. It builds to a great conclusion. There is enough action to satisfy action hero movie fans and enough drama to satisfy those looking for a plot and character devolpment. Batman vs Bane’s 2 showdowns are just as  intense as the trailers make them out to be. The conclusion leaves an open end for a sequel or Justice League movie but otherwise wraps it up nicely concluding the trilogy. Overall, The Dark Knight Rises is a great epic movie and worth the price of a ticket/buying on home release.

The Dark Knight Rises is rated PG-13 for  intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language.  I give The Dark Knight Rises an epic A+.
