If you like fun summer movies then The Lone Ranger is for you. It stars Johnny Depp as Tonto, Armie Hammer as John Reid, Helena Bonham Carter as Red, Ruth Wilson as Rebecca Reid, William Fichtner as Butch Cavendish, Tom Wilkinson as Latham Cole, and Barry Pepper as Captain Jay Fuller.
The Lone Ranger is about The Lone Ranger and Tonto who become a team after Tonto rescues Lone Ranger after he is shot and they fight against the attacker of the Ranger and his brother and evil in the Wild West.
The Lone Ranger is a fun summer movie. It should not be taken seriously. If you go in expecting a serious western drama that makes sense with ocassional comedy you will be very disappointed like many critics were. If you go in expecting a silly fun ridiculous movie then you will enjoy The Lone Ranger for what it is worth. What it is is a silly comedy with many 1 liners.
It’s like Pirates of the Caribbean as a western. There is the action and the humor of those movies. But instead of being set at sea it is set in Texas during the late 1800’s. There are also the adventure and set pieces of the Pirates movie. Johnny Depp also plays Tonto in the same manner as Jack Sparrow, and it’s hilarious with some very funny scenes. In this movie however, a lot of the set pieces involve trains instead of ships. Those set pieces are fun even though they are very ridiculous. They include lot’s of stunts and the old theme song playing. Plus it’s all summer fun.
The only problem of the movie for me was the length. It’s 2 1/2 hours, but does not need to be. The pro of that however, is that you get more character moments. The con is that the movie ocassionaly drags. Overall, The Lone Ranger is a long fun summer movie.
The Lone Ranger is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action and violence, and some suggestive material. That is accurate with a lot of action, a cannibal villan, and a brothel scene and a reacurring character. I give The Lone Ranger an A- kimosabe .
