If you like classic horror movies then The Evil Dead is for you. It stars Bruce Cambpell as Ash.
The Evil Dead is about 5 friends who go for a weekend to a cabin in the woods. They discover a recording and listen to it summoming a demon that posseses them.
The Evil Dead is a classic horror movie. It was original when it first came out and it’s format has been copied in many horror movies, most recently in Cabin in the Woods . The movie itself is regarded as a cult classic horror movie and there have been 2 sequels and a sucessful remake. So this movie is pretty well admired by almost everyone.
Does it still hold up ? Yes, yes it does. The movie itself is still great and holds up effects and direction wise. Considering we are now used to CGI in most movies, the claymation and use of practical effects are very well done and still looks very cool especially in the end when there is a ton of claymation practical effects happening at once . The infamous tree sequence is still as weird as ever. Once the demon releases, the movie goes from campy movie to a good horror movie. The demon keeps possesing the 5 campers and the tension holds up supringsly well for a movie this old that had such a small budget. It also has character devolpment unlike most horror movies as Ash goes from chicken to hero throughout the movie.
If you want to do a double feature, watch this and Cabin in the Woods. Without spoiling the latter’s twist, both movies compliment each other very well.
Also, the movie is somewhat campy and comical so don’t go in expecting straight horror. Overall, The Evil Dead is a classic horror movie that still holds up very well over 30 years later.
The Evil Dead is rated R for strong bloody horror violence and disturbing images. I give The Evil Dead an evil A.
