Pacific Rim jpjIf you like sci-fi movies then Pacific Rim is for you. It stars Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh, Idris Elba as Stacker Pentacost, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako, Charlie Day as Newton, Burn Gornman as Gottlieb   and Ron Perlman as Hannibal Chow

Pacific Rim starts with a voiceover narration detailing the Kaju (aliens that rose out of the sea) vs Jaegers (giant mechs that humans created to fight the Kaju)  war. Cut to 2 brothers getting woken up because of a Kaju attack. They go to battle but 1 of the brothers is killed while the other survives.Cut to 5 years later when the Jaegers base is going to be shut down but the head general is still keeping the program alive in Hong Kong and goes to recruit the brother that survived. Along with Mako a hopeful pilot, he, and the rest of the force have to stop the Kaju by destroying the rift.

Pacific Rim is an awesome sci-fi movie with epic action and great visuals. Think of this as a bigger and better Transformers. In the movie’s opening moments, Del Toro does a great job creating the world and starting the movie in the middle of the long war, getting right into the heat of the action.

When the action does happen, it is awesome. The Kaju and Jagers are towering creatures of over 1000 feet high. The Jagers have many cool weapons and being that height, they also can use the environment. When the Jaegers use all of the tools at their disposal versus the Kaju, the action is awesome with these massive titans fighting through cities, oceans and even space using all of their cool weapons in these well directed fights.

The visuals also look great. The whole style has a cool look, and the visual design of the Jagers and Kaju is very cool and the whole movie is also well directed especially the fights.

The movie also has funny comic relief in the form of the 2 scientists and their interactions and what they do. The score is also great, kicking in at the right moments, to make the action even better. Overall, Pacific Rim is an awesome sci-fi movie with great visuals

Pacific Rim is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence throughout, and brief language. I give Pacific Rim a rimming A.
