If you like kids adventure movies then Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island is for you. It stars Josh Hutcherson (from Zathura and Hunger Games) as Sean Anderson, Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. the Rock) as Hank, Micheal Caine as Alexander,Vannesa Hudgens (from High School Musical) as Kailani, and Luis Gunzman as Gabato.
Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island starts when Sean and Hank decode a coded message from Sean’s grandfather Alexander who went looking for a mysterious island 3 years ago. The message reveals the location of the island in longitude and latitude. Sean and Hank travel to the closest port and enlist the help of Kailani and Gabato to fly to the coordinates. They get knocked down in a storm and wake up on the island. They find Alexander and then realize the island is going under water. They have to find a way off the island before it sinks!
Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island is good, kids adventure movie. The plot moves at a good pace until the end, where it goes full-speed to get to the end of the story quickly. It does right what ” The Adventures of Tintin : Secret of the Unicorn” did right and it fixes the mistakes that “Tintin” ( The most easily comparable movie) did wrong (Journey 2 had some content for younger and older kids. “Tintin” had content for younger kids only). There is comic relief in many scenes but there is not an overload of silly stuff. Journey 2 does mix and match two Jules Verne’s books which is strange, but it works. Overall, Journey 2 is a good family adventure movie.
Journey 2 is rated PG for some adventure action, and brief mild language. I give Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island a mysterious B+.
