Prometheus Review

If you like smart sci-fi with horror jump scares, then Prometheus is for you. It stars Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw, Micheal Fassbender as David, Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers, Idris Elba as Jenek, Logan Marshall-Green as Charlie Holloway, Sean Harris as Fifeld, Rafe Spall as Milburn, and Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland.

Prometheus is about 2 scientists who find a bunch of cave paintings with humans pointing to planets in the sky painted by different ancient civilizations. They get funding and go on an expedition to the star system the planets are located in. They arrive and start exploring the main planet in the drawings. They find a structure and start to explore it. Needless to say, things do not go well.

Prometheus is a thoughtful, sci-fi horror film. It is scary but also poses huge ideas an philosophical questions. The 2 scientists think aliens created humans and the creators are sending an invitation to us. Then, at around the 50 minute mark, things start going badly for the crew. There are many jump scenes. There are alien creatures. There is lots of action. There are special effects. There is blood and gore.

The main problem with the movie is the large number of plot holes and moments where you think, why are you doing this. The characters do not act realistically. Some of their mistakes are funny and what they then do is funny as well.  The explanations around most of the plot holes have not been confirmed by the director or writer. So, feel free to post your own theories in the comments.. Overall, Prometheus is a smart, horror sci-fi movie.

Prometheus is rated R for sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language. I give Prometheus a smart A.
