The Big Year review

Posted in On DVD by - October 18, 2011

The Big Year is a movie not many people had heard about until a couple of weeks before its release., when 20th Century Fox finally started marketing it. This resulted in a weak opening box office and a short run in theaters.  It is a shame because the movie is both funny and heartwarming.

The Big Year has 3 well known actors in it.  Owen Wilson stars as Kenny Bostick, a birder who set the world record for most species of birds spotted in one year.  Steve Martin plays  Stu Pressler, who just retired and is starting his retriment with a big year . The final big name is Jack Black who plays  Brad Harris,  a 36  year old bird spotter who is divorced and is living with his parents.

A big year is when a birder embarks on a quest to spot the most  difefrent types of birds in one calendar year. The Big Year is a good, heartwarming comedyabout a boring subject (birdwatching) which is not on many peoples list of exciting things to watch in a movie (can you say yawn to watching birds fly). The Big Year is rated PG for language and some sensuality. You probably won’t be able to find this in theaters, so I recommend renting it. I don’t recommend buying Big Year since this isn’t the type of movie you would want to watch over and over again, unless you are a birder.
