Hachi a Dog’s Tale review

Posted in On DVD by - October 18, 2011

If you like emotional heartwarming movies then Hachi is for you.

Hachi stars Richard Gere as Parker Wilson , an economics professor at a university that also teaches dancing to adults. One day, on his way home, he finds an akita puppy that he takes home with him. That puppy grows up to be Hachi, his loyal dog who waits at  the train station everyday for him to return home.  The movie is the story of their lives together and beyond (spoiler alert: someone or something dies … or maybe both). Hachi a Dog’s Tale is based off a book that is  based off of a true story.

Hachi is a good drama but also very very sad. A lot of the movie will have you in tears if you are a crier or dog person. Hachi a Dog’s Tale  is a story and character driven drama (just like Moneyball). Supringsly, even with all the sad and emotionally draining flashbacks, the movie  is rated G.

When you want a good cry followed by feeling good, Hachi a Dog’s Tale is for you. I give it an A. This movie was orignally released in 2009 and can be found on DVD.

if you read the book how was the movie diffrent how was it the same
    this site rocks

    • I think that this movie would be great to see with a friend. it is heart warming, sad, and funny. Even though Hachi and Hachiko are diffrent they are also the same. They both are sad and happy. Diffrent plot and charaters also, bu great!

      • sorry my comment was so short

When i read the book Hachiko and watched the movie Hachi, there were many comparisons I could make between the two. The setting both took place at a train station, although the movie had it in America at Bedridge Station. In the book, it was in Japan at Shibuya Station. Dr. Parker found Hachi on his way home from work at Bedridge. Even though Dr. Parker and Dr. Ueno are different nationalities, they both were college professors.Dr. Parker Wilson taught Performing Arts, while dr. Ueno taught at the Tokyo Imperial University. In Hachiko, the story is about a Japanese man whi has a loyal dog that comes to greet him everyday after work at the train station. This left out many touching elements and details that the movie included. Hachi the movie was a brilliant surge of gentle emotion that touched hearts worldwide. Friendship, loyalty, emotional, and prosperity are all words that describe the tale accurately. This is a very true-to-the-heart story and from this kid’s point of view, the movie is better than the book, and if I were to put a price on the dvd, it would be worth a million bucks!

Great comment you deserve an A

  • Isabella

sorry my comment was so long, but i just had to spill my feelings about this movie

Hachi was pretty different from the book Hachiko. I think it was much sadder. They showed all the good times they had so when the dog died it was even sadder. I also thought it was really sad when Dr.Parker’s family let Hachi go back to the train station. It was really cool how they showed the world through the dogs eyes. It was so sad to watch the dog waiting at the train station everyday I found a lump forming in my throat. This is truly one of the saddest movies ever. Even though it was sad it was also happy at parts and I enjoyed it. I would recommend this to a friend who likes a bittersweet movie. Great review Jonathan!

  • Kent S.

That was a great reviev. i woul recomend that o ANYBODY from ages 8 and over. I wouldn’t recomend it to anyone who was younger because it might be to intense for the younger fellows. Over all i would recomend it to many people.

  • Kent S.

Over all it was a great movie

  • Christopher

When I read the story I was amazed by how good it was! Then I saw the movie which was even better. I would definitely recommend Hachi to a friend! Even though it might be the saddest movie you will ever see, I was astonished when I saw the movie. I would recommend it to a friend because it’s a great movie and I think everyone should see a movie like this. In fact, I’ve already recommended and told my friends
and family about this outstanding movie!

  • Scott

I would reccomend it to a friend because it s

Sorry about that last comment my computer gliched on me. I would recommend to a friend because it was a touching and heartwretching movie to watch. Though I would not recommend it to like Kent said kids 7 and down because it is very intense. Over all a great and touching family movie.

      • Jonathan

Its okay i agree not for kids under 7 or 8

  • Scott

I think the movies were alike because they both took place at a train station. Though one was in America the other in Japan. SPOILER ALERT In both the movie and the book the Professer dies and the dog waits their patiently until the dog dies.

  • Scott

Over all the is one of the best dramas I have ever seen. The thing that made me cry was the flashbacks and the train as the white light or also know as the road to heaven.

  • Jonathan

reply to this if you want to help with the site if you are in 6-1 or 6-2

    • I agree to what scott and kent said it is a bit to intence maybe 9 and up

  • Christopher

Like Scott said, i think it is a heart touching movie but it is not for kids under 7 years of age. I would also think that this movie should be called for PG

    • Jonathan

I completely agree do you want to help with the site

  • Christopher

I think that the hardest part to go through in the movie was when the dog dies and he looks cold, dirty, and a broken heart.

    • Jonathan

      i agree

    • i agree very sad it was the hardest part even when the professer dies too

  • Christopher

I would especially recommend this movie to someone who likes a good old bittersweet movie!

  • Maddie G

I think this is a great review. It wraps up the whole movie and book in a paragraph. You did a great job keep up the great work.

    • Jonathan

thanks a bunch do you want to help

  • Christopher

The movie is different than the book because the train stations are different, the dogs names are different, the professors names are different, and many many more.

    • Jonathan

what do you mean the dogs names are diffrent there is only 1 dog i thought.

  • Christopher

I mean the dog in the movie is named Hachi but the dog in the book is named Hachiko

  • Jonathan

I would recomended the movie to a friend if they do not mind cyring at some parts. The book and movie had differences in plot and setting. In the plot, the book only alludes to the passing of Doctor Parker, who is called Doctor Ueno in the book. In the movie, the doctor dies on screen. The book was not as sad or as emotional because it did not use flashbacks in the end like the movie. The setting is different because the book takes place in Japan in the 1930’s while the movie is set in current time in the United States. I would recomended the book and movie. I would recomended both even thought the movie is better the book is still great.

  • Will

I highly agree with Jonathan. I would definitely recommend this movie to a friend if they are looking for something to cry about. It is such a touching movie about the companionship between dogs and humans. After all, dogs are mans best friend, and this movie really expresses that idea. If anyone sees the movie again, i recommend a box of tissues.

  • Elizabeth

Great Job! I think that the rating should have been a 5 though. Hachi definately made you cry. It made me cry just seeing the dog siting there waiting for Parker. This is THE MOST heartwarming, moving, tear wrenching movie I ever saw in the 11 almost 12 years I have been alive. It really shows loyalty and the bond between humans and animals!

  • Christopher

They were both the same because both professors went to a university and both got their Ph.D. In both, the dog dies and the dog waits for it’s master. Another reason they’re alike is because both settings are at a train station. I think the theme of this story is sure to be that a dog is a man’s best friend.

  • Christopher

    Great site!

  • Christopher

I also thought it was a great idea to include more people, like the man selling coffee and bagels at the station in the movie.

  • Jonathan

how did you like the movie

  • Kyrah

Hachi was very sad for a G rated movie it was very touching and even funny in some parts I would recommend this to anyone. I feel like all dogs in movies get the death part such as Old Yeller or Marley and Me a Storm and some others. Even though it was a movie it was very realistic and had wonderful actors ( including ) the dog that played Hachi. Well Done movie, many differences from the real story though.

    • Jonathan

Yes it is okay that you tell your twitter group.

  • You’ve got actually made some ultimate features here. I in particular preferred how you match so rather a lot priceless data into this kind of concise blog post which created it if truth be told gratifying to read your ideas for the topic. IMHO you place a lot of wonderful information on this article without all of the filler that the majority bloggers use simply to make their posts appear longer, which is supreme for a gal like me who does not have considerably time motive I am usually about the go. So plenty of on the consequences on search engines are simply unintelligible junk, it’s wonderful to see a post that creates sense. I will for sure be adding this weblog to my favorites record so I can share it with my friends. I seem forward to coming again to read your future posts also.

  • this movie is so sad but it is such a good movie your lucky you got to see it for a class
