If you like horrible horror movies then The Apparition is for you. It stars Ashley Greene as Kelly, Sebastian Stan as Ben, and Tom Felton as Patrick.
The Apparition starts with old grainy footage of The Charles Experiment where a group of scientists in a house brought back their dead collegue. Cut to present day, where a group of paranormal specalists attempt to recreate it and they create an creature . Cut to a a young couple who is moving into a new house and due to the guys’s history they start noticing strange things. They don’t know what to do on their own so they hire a paranormal specalist as this demon keeps attacking them. They have to stop the demon before their lives are ruined.
The Apparition is a horrible horror movie. Think Paranormal Activity without the uniqueness of the handheld camera and without the scares. There is so much bad about this movie. Where to start? The nonexistent scares, the fake marketing, the cliches, the stupidty of the characters, or the horrible length.
I’ll start with the nonexsistent scares. This movie tries to be scary with the demon attacking the couple by tormenting them. The torments are not scary. If anything, they are weird. The rest of the movie is not scary as well. It is alot of people reacting to noises in the night and attempting to capture or reawaken demons. Also, the Charles Experiment which was supposed to be shocking and the redo of it was also supposed to be, is not scary. It’s just a moving table. The movie also attempts to create tension with fast camera work and urgent actions but it does not work.
Then there’s the marketing. That tagline “once you believe you die” is fake. The demon doesn’t care if the couple believe’s in it, it just attacks them, the house, and the neighbors without caring about them. Also, the poster is one giant spoiler alert as is the trailer. The poster above shows the last shot of the movie as does the trailer.
There is also tons of cliches. The characters do every dumb thing that characters in horror movies do. They just walk around, they stay at their house, and other incredibly stupid things that are so dumb, you can make fun of the character’s lack of intelligence.
The length is also horrible. This movie is incredibly short (83 minuets or 1hr 23min) but it still feels long due to the low quality. Overall, The Apparition is a horrible horror movie.
The Apparition is rated PG-13 for terror/frightening images and some sensuality. That is inaccurate. Sure, if you get scared easily you could be scared by one or two scenes of strangeness. There are no frightening images. The only thing accurate is some sensuality. The lead actress takes a shower in one secne and walks around in light clothing. I give The Appartion a horrificly bad F. The only enjoyment you can get from it, is watching with friends to make fun of it.
