If you like teen romance/coming of age movies then The Spectacular Now is for you. It stars Miles Teller as Sutter Keely, Shailene Woodley as Amiee Finicky, Brie Larson as Cassidy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Holly, and Kyle Chandler as Mr. Keely.
The Spectacular Now is about Sutter , a teenage alcholic who after breaking up with his girlfriend , wakes up one morning hungover on Amiee’s lawn. They strike up a romance in their high school senior year.
The Spectacular Now is a great teen romance/coming of age movie with 2 leads that have fantastic chemistry. The movie is well directed and acted and feels genuine. Not only do the leads interact well together, indivually they are excellent as well. The rest of the cast also does a wonderful job.
Another thing that is noteworthy is the direction. The movie is very well directed with some great long takes and zoom ins that just focus on the actors. The framing is great as well. It has a retro visual feel to it that is ever present throughout and really adds to the movie . The movie also feels very genuine with dialogue and the way characters interact and how the secnes progress. Overall, The Spectacular Now is spectacular.
The Spectacular Now is rated R for alcohol use, language and some sexuality – all involving teens. That is accurate with drinking and language throughout and 1 very tastefully directed sex scene. I give The Spectacular Now a spectacular A.
