If you like space movies or visually amazing movies then Gravity is for you. It stars Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, George Clooney as Matt Kowalski and Ed Harris as the voice of Mission Control.
Gravity is about a team of astronauts including Dr. Ryan Stone and Matt Kowalski who are in space fixing the Hubble space telescope. After debris hits, only 2 astronauts survive and they have to find a way to get back to Earth.
Gravity is technical masterpiece. Once you start thinking about the story however, some flaws start to appear dragging the movie down.
The visuals in Gravity are stunning. It is incredible from the spectacular 13 minute long take that opens the movie to the other expertly directed shots that are all throughout the movie. The visuals effects are excellent and are a lock to win Best Visual Effects. Even though most of it was filmed on green screen with CGI, it still looks realistic. There are even some little things like a hurricane in the opening or water and fire later in the movie that just adds to the excellent technical aspects. Another excellent technical aspect is the score. It is fantastic throughout. The movie is well acted with 2 great leads that add some humor.
The story is not as masterful as the visuals and direction. While there are some visual metaphors and themes, the rest of the plot has some obvious plot holes and contrivences that bring the movie down. Overall, Gravity is a well acted sci-fi technical masterpiece dragged down by some plot issues and ridiculous coincidences.
Gravity is rated PG-13 for intense perilous sequences, some disturbing images and brief strong language. I give Gravity a gravitational A-.
